This bible is an exceptional readers edition. I bought the blue full-yap, and its seriously a work of art. One thing I really like is that the spine simply has RSV on it, without the standard with Apocrypha found on all ecumenical bibles Ive owned. Schuyler Quentel bibles are known for exquisite craftsmanship. I would like to add a thumbs up to all the good things said above. If I had my way, I would remove the thys along with the art from the Our Father during the liturgy. Expanded Edition of The Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical Books The 1971 NT includes many of the changes from the RSV-CE, and it was endorsed by Cardinal Koenig. Its not obscure by any means. I also very much appreciate the expanded apocrypha which most publishers do not include, especially Psalm 151 and the extra chapters in Daniel. Second is the addition of drop caps, which are a new design for Schuyler that are different from the drop caps found in their Canterbury and Treveris Bibles. The Schuyler edition shows some minor page wrinkles near the gutter, and the feel of opening and closing the Bible is not as solid as the Cambridge. My comment is on both the text block and the cover. The Psalms are some of the best renderings of Hebrew poetry updated from the KJV English. These are minor errors, easily recognized and corrected by the reader; but since two were found so quickly, it seems likely that they aren't alone (i.e., that more will be discovered). Here is the personal size version of this Bible. I also love that it is a translation that I can share with friends and family who are not Catholic, and I have given away many copies of the NOAB RSV. However, if you are desiring a premium bible that includes the Deuterocanonical books, in a literal translation like the RSV, this is the bible you should consider purchasing. In conclusion, let me just say that the price point for this bible may be a deterrent for some people. Ive held at least 20-30 Schuyler Bibles in my hands at this point, and I cant think of one that has felt this good. The RSV is also perhaps the most ecumenically accepted translation of all time, having been widely used by Protestant, Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, and Evangelical Christians. The calfskin is smoother than the goatskin but still has a nice, interesting grain to it that feels good in the hand. My copy of the RSV Quentel has a Firebrick Red goatskin cover with the optional full yapp (available in red or black). As a bonus, in my opinion at least, its black letter. Ive spent a ton of time with the RSV Quentel since I recorded my unboxing video, and one of the things that strikes me is that this Bible was actually quite a risk for Schuyler. The text is line-matched, but the print varies in darkness. Alas, I feel I always need a KJV or ASV nearby, if only for their clear pronoun usage. Theyre plain in my opinion, but this one changed my mind! The result, to me, makes the RSV sound sporadically archaic while providing no information about plural vs. singular. The Schuyler calfskin RSV is a beautiful Bible! Let me say two things upfront. The RSV was translated by 32 scholars along with 50 representatives of cooperating denominational bodies. The combination of premium feel in the hands and readability (in terms of layout and margins etc) that I read and heard about really drives up my interest.
